27 May 2024: Central Iona
The Boggy Ground Did Not Stop Us
We booked a boat trip to the Isle of Staffa in the morning. The weather was not great and the skipper said he couldn’t guarantee we’d be able to land. So we changed the booking to the afternoon (as you’ll see in the next post, this was a good decision).
So we decided to explore the central area of Iona. It rained on and off and the ground was quite boggy. We lost the ‘track’ a few times but the views were great.
And of course we started the day with the full Scottish breakfast.
Highlights Slideshow
Breakfast

Poached eggs, bacon, tomato, sausage, blood pudding, mushrooms and potato scones.
Cathy had the same but with haggis instead of blood sausage.
Central Iona

The red dot is our guest house. The blue dot is the port. After checking in with the boat skipper we headed south to the central area of Iona.

What a cutie.

Moving onto higher ground.

We headed back from here (see map above). We didn’t really know where we were but we tried our best to backtrack.

We ended up more or less where we had left the road.
The weather improved after lunch but this is still very beautiful (in a rugged Scottish way).
